Despite not winning a Big Ten regular-season championship, the Fab Five's performance remained stellar, earning them a second shot at the National Championship in 1993. The final four game against the North Carolina Tar Heels is considered one of the most iconic games in college basketball history. However, a technical foul resulting from Chris Webber's timeout call when there were none left led to their defeat.

In the years that followed, an investigation found that Webber had received cash and support payments from a booster, leading to the team being stripped of their wins and Final Four appearances. Despite this setback, the Fab Five's impact was far from over, as four out of the five players went on to have successful NBA careers.

NBA Careers of the Fab Five: A Testament to Their Talent

Four of the Fab Five, namely Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard, and Jimmy King, made it onto NBA rosters. Ray Jackson, despite his stellar performance at U of M, was cut preseason by the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons. However, he went on to receive the 1995–96 CBA Rookie of the Year Award in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA).

Jimmy King had a brief stint in the NBA, playing two seasons with the Toronto Raptors and Denver Nuggets. Juwan Howard had a more successful run, winning an NBA Championship and enjoying one of the longest NBA careers. Today, he is the coach of the Michigan Wolverines. Jalen Rose, despite not winning a title, was instrumental in leading the Indiana Pacers to the NBA Finals in 2000. Chris Webber, an All-Star five times, led his team to the Western Conference Finals in 2002 and had his number retired by the Sacramento Kings.
